The Solidarity and Development Secretariat of the De La Salle Christian Brothers has launched a bold worldwide appeal for funds to support people in undeveloped areas of the globe effected by COVID-19. Immediate humanitarian aid will be provided to thousands of families in the most-vulnerable areas of the world.

As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads around the globe, individuals living in underdeveloped nations are among those most impacted. In these areas, dense housing currently facilitates the disease’s rapid transmission. The unavailability of proper sanitary facilities is making hand-washing difficult. Fragile health systems are overwhelmed, and testing is extremely limited or nonexistent.

And so, to help these developing nations defeat COVID-19, the Solidarity and Development Secretariat is coordinating a relief effort that is easing the suffering and ensuring the safety of the people in these areas. Funds collected by this global campaign, among other things, are helping students and families obtain facemasks, providing access to disinfectants, accommodating the homeless, and feeding the impoverished. With humanitarian needs differ from one locality to another, a single solution does not fit all locations. As a result, informed experts on the ground are directing regionally-specific relief efforts.

Areas preliminarily targeted for assistance include Central and South America, Africa, the Middle East, India, Southeastern Asia, and the Pacific Islands. This involves approximately 597 educational institutions, 639,000 students, 48,000 staff, and 1,061 De La Salle Brothers.

The goal of the campaign is to build solidarity by offering every student, faculty, staff, parent, and friend the opportunity to support Lasallian colleagues in third-world nations. To assist, La Salle International joined forces with many other NGOs, foundations, and alumni groups in providing a mechanism for donations to reach the people who need the help the most.

While Phase I of the campaign has been completed, we are still collecting funds to assist Lasallian entities for coping with Covid-19.  One hundred percent of your tax-deductible contribution will help these fragile sectors of the world. Together we can defeat COVID-19!
