Ethiopia Catholic University Students Receive Scholarships
In line with the Lasallian mission to provide education and support to those most in need, the Pulte Family Charitable Foundation and La Salle International Foundation have partnered to deliver life-changing scholarship assistance to students in Ethiopia. During the 2024-2025 academic year, 35 Ethiopian Catholic University of Saint Thomas Aquinas (ECUSTA) students received this critical support. These scholarships were awarded to medical, social work, and medical laboratory sciences students, prioritizing those from rural areas and financially vulnerable backgrounds.

The financial aid provided more than just tuition support. For many recipients, it eased the daily anxiety of securing meals, transportation, and essential medical equipment for their studies. Along the way to earning their degrees, some students had lost their family support, while others faced loan debts. These scholarships provided hope and stability, so Lasallian students could continue pursuing their academic and professional dreams.

The scholarship was distributed in two phases. First, female medical students received assistance to help pay off student loans and cover daily living expenses. Later, the scholarship committee broadened the eligibility to students from all programs and academic years, ensuring a more expansive reach after an open application period.
One student, Tehetena Mulgeta, who lost her arm last year, expressed deep gratitude for the support. Bishop Seyoum Fransua, Apostolic Vicar of Hosanna, joined in expressing his appreciation by writing a message:
“Thank you to the Pulte Family Charitable Foundation and the La Salle International Foundation for the kindness you have showered upon Tehetena.“

The Pulte Foundation believes that scholarships help build a better world where individuals care for each other, share blessings, and take responsibility for their communities. This initiative reflects the heart of Lasallian education: forming people who live out their ethical and spiritual calling through acts of mercy, compassion, and service.
